What is MEDS Travel?
MEDS “Meetings of Design Students” Travel is a new educational travel initiative which started in 2018 and derived from the summer workshops but based on a travel concept.
The idea and goal for the travel is to educate and show international design students and creative minds the architectural, cultural and historical aspects of a country.
It’s an enjoyable way to interact with people outside our familiar cultural and educational or professional spheres and capture and learn about important landmarks.
Activities
On the journey, participants will explore Sri Lanka, it’s food, culture, history and religion with an experienced guide. Other activities such as yoga, cooking, surfing, and more will be part if the experience and incorporated into the learning journey of the (optional) photography workshop.

Shutter and Spice
Exploring Sri Lanka through point and shoot photography and storytelling.
Photography Workshop (Optional)
maximum 30hrs over 11 days
On the journey, participants will explore Sri Lanka, it’s food, culture, history and religion with an experienced guide. Other activities such as yoga, cooking, surfing, and more will be part if the experience and incorporated into the learning journey of the (optional) photography workshop.
There will be no photo editing, advanced technical inputs or theory analysis.
We will explore Sri Lanka, partake in various activities and take pictures with our point and shoot cameras that will be provided. No laptops needed by participants.
Tools and Toys:
Everyone uses a point-and-shoot camera.
We will also be printing the photos to share and review and each participant will be encouraged to keep a photo diary of their trip for the various exercises and stories they will tell.
Fascilitator:
The workshop will be led by Vlad Georgiev, an experienced photographer and workshop designer who guarantees the workshop will be a playful, relaxed and complementary experience that will only add to your journey through Sri Lanka.

Workshop Outcomes
The participants shall make small diary of travel in Sri Lanka along with the photography workshop exercises.
The selection of photographs will lead to a very old papyrus printing publishing house using the images in a book soon to be launched called the “The Amateurs Route to Sri Lanka”, an initiative with the Sri Lankan tourism government board.
How will we work?
Along the way we will also gather together in teams to take part in fun activities where participants will:
Learn to see like a photographer, not take shots like a pro.
Explore light, composition, and rhythm through playful challenges.
Collaborate in teams to observe, document, and narrate small stories.
Develop confidence to create beautiful, intentional images using simple tools.
Experience the world more attentively through mindful photography.
More details about the mindset of the workshop:
Learning through play: short, themed challenges.
Sensory learning: exercises using sound, touch, and movement.
Reflection instead of theory: group sharing circles and visual discussions.
Exploration-based: almost all sessions happen outside – beaches, markets, temples, forests, rooftops, gardens.
Tools as toys: everyone uses a point-and-shoot camera.

Bhumit Shah
“Bhum Bhum” is an architect by profession and a passionate traveller who’s explored over 35 countries. Experiencing new cultures and places fuels my creativity and love for discovery. The Sri Lanka trip is a special one, curated with genuine passion and a deep love for travel.
“The idea of MEDS Travel has been close to my heart. Expanding the knowledge about the culture and culinary traditions, by that enhancing the experience and making it more interesting and memorable.”
Vlad Georgiev
Vlad Georgiev is an educator, designer and genuinely curious individual living in Berlin. In the last 5 years he’s guided diverse teams on their human centered design learning journeys, spent as much time ‘bikepacking’ as possible, performed a parody space opera inside several techno clubs and helped people communicate their ideas with the magic of video. Vlad loves to solve problems big and small, design workshop formats and says the words “life is a prototype!” pretty often
